Chromakey Backdrops
10x20 - $29512x24 - $525
Eos Lighting muslin backdrops are 100% cotton and perfectly dyed using a specific chromakey color designed for optimal performance with all major keying software and hardware.
If you’ve ever used a backdrop before, whether it’s for chromakey production, a solid color, or simply a decorative pattern, paper or cloth background materials, you know that the versatility, adjustability, and strength of the support system hardware makes all the difference in setting up your studio to get the shot just right.
The next most important thing to consider with a complete chromakey kit is it’s ability to stretch the muslin backdrop material tight to eliminate wrinkles that get into the material when folded up and stored.
Our chromakey kits feature a telescoping crossbar and we supply you with 8 specially designed heavy-duty screen clamps. This design allows you to effortlessly adjust the distance between the stands to exactly the width of the muslin screen pulling it tight. This instantly smoothes out wrinkles eliminating the potential for shadows which will make keying difficult.
This background support system delivers the excellent versatility both as a studio support system and as a potable one. Perfect for smaller studio areas and location set-up where a Pop-up screen is not desirable or simply too small.
This entire support systems breaks down into a small carrying case only 42″ x 5″.
Another great feature of this system is that the crossbar is ” Telescoping”. Meaning that it simply slides to the desired length from 4 feet to 12 feet wide and require absolutely no tools or any kind to assemble. Other systems force you to assemble rigid 3-foot long sections of pipe together to achieve the desired length of the crossbar.
The main problem with a fixed sectional crossbar systems is that backgrounds come in widths that do not match the set sizes of 3, 6, 9, or 12 feet exactly, so you end up with big gaps between the edge of your background and the support stands, or a sloppy overlap. This can cause problems especially in smaller studios where space is at a premium.
The Basic Rule when setting up for chromakey production to get the same quality results like you see on the local News Channel Weather Report is; your subject needs to be 8 feet in front off the screen, and the camera needs to be the same distance from the subject as the subject is from the screen. Do the math and that’s 16 feet.
Varying from this formula will almost always result in less than desirable keying results using halogen lighting and your NLE Video editing software to key with.
Additionally, you must use a minimum of 5 light heads indoors to do the job correctly. 2 Head to light the screen, and a Key, Fill, and Overhead for your subject. If you don’t use separate lights for the screen and place the subject too close to the screen the Key and Fill lights will cast shadows onto the screen making it virtually impossible to get a clean key on a moving subject.
The biggest mistakes producers make when setting up for chromakey work is trying to use too small a screen for head to-to-toe framing, and not using 5 Light Heads as described above.
Being that the camera ends up at a minimum of 16 feet from the screen, you’ll need as wide a background area as possible to ensure your framing is filled edge to edge with the background to key properly.
This high-quality 100% cotton muslin will deliver outstanding performance for all of your chromakey needs. It’s large size is essential for doing chromakey video work where your talent needs to move around.
The 12×24 lets you to get further back from the subject with your camcorder, and lets the talent get further away from the vertical back of the screen giving them room to move about without falling off the edge of the screen.
Once again, shooting chromakey correctly requires precise set-up and lighting techniques to ensure crisp keys with most popular NLE editing software.
